Scottish pipe band retailer Scott Currie launches new acoustIQ accessories brand

“As we develop the brand and grow the product range, our intention is to remain focused on UK-based production and delivering value to our end users."

Scottish pipe band retailer Scott Currie Ltd has introduced a new in-house brand of accessories for pipe band and marching drummers.

acoustIQ was established in early 2017 by 11-time World Drum Corps Championship-winner Scott Currie, and offers professional accessories designed in the UK at affordable prices. With the impact of Brexit and exchange rates biting hard on the industry, acoustIQ is aiming to buck the trend of escalating costs by “putting quality products designed and developed in the UK into the hands of players at prices that don’t break the bank”.

acoustIQ's new 'Grand Slam’* suite of percussion accessories consists of Grand Slam practice pads, the Grand Slam IQ1 snare drum sticks in natural, black and white lacquers, and two ranges of tenor drum mallets, the Grand Slam tenor drum mallets in five standard stock colours, and the custom Grand Slam Plus tenor drum mallets, which offers a choice of 12 custom colours made-to-order on demand.

The Grand Slam practice pad retails at £18.99, the IQ1 snare drum sticks are priced from £10.99-£11.99, and the Grand Slam tenor drum mallets start at £28.99.

All of the products are now shipping to drummers worldwide, with some notable early users being the Grade 1 Buchan Peterson Pipe Band, who debuted the Grand Slam tenor drum mallets in competition at the Scottish Pipe Band Championships, and the drum corps of the Grade 1 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band from Ontario, Canada – led by world championship-winning leading drummer Drew Duthart on the Grand Slam practice pad.

“acoustIQ has been an exciting project to get off the ground in such a relatively short amount of time, and it’s been especially pleasing to put several products into production with our manufacturing partners exclusively in the UK,” said Currie.

“As we develop the brand and grow the product range, our intention is to remain focused on UK-based production and delivering value to our end users."

*Grand Slam is the name given to the feat of winning all five major pipe band drum corps championships in one competitive season, the last time being in 1991 by Shotts & Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band drum corps led by Jim Kilpatrick MBE.
